Concept & Development

Before I started producing concepts, I had thought on what body expression my character would make to give the audience the overall feeling towards the drawing.

I first started gesture drawing to capture the essence of the pose of the overall feeling of tiring. The arrows point out where the body parts that give weight. As the person tries to relax, they will let go of their control over that limb.

After the concept, I started selecting in my concept gestures which is the best at give the essence I want and whats possible for me when producing the final drawing.

After the selection, I started giving the gesture drawing more solid shapes so I can bring more shapes to the pose as well as give dynamic perspective to make it really pop out of the image.

After selecting one pose from the development drawing (middle pose at development page). I have selected whats best for the pose which was World War II.

I took some references from the WWII before making the final drawing.

After acquiring the reference images. I started off with my final drawing.

In the final image, I chose the tired gesture of the pose and WWII as they complement each other. World War II how people depicted was extremely sad event where many soldiers died to fight for their nation. This image depicts a soldier that has exhausted himself and is trying to rest. The gesture pose is unruly as the soldier doesn't have enough time to adjust himself to properly sit.

If I had time I would had changed the soldier pose be a bit more properly sitting. Because I had received feedback from my classmates that it looks dead than tired. I need to reach out to people for feed-backs next time I draw so that I wont make a mistake on reading the wrong intentions I want them to see.

I would wish to improve my shading and perspective skills. As they are ones that are holding back on making the final drawing looking better. Also trying to keep in mind before drawing is composition.
